Ice makers make it simple and convenient to get fresh, cold ice for all your cooling needs. There are some important considerations to make when choosing an ice maker, however; they are not all built the same, so the user should think carefully about which one is the right fit for their operations.
Size and capacity are intertwined characteristics that are important to the utility of a given ice maker. Smaller countertop models are compact and easy to store or move around, but they make ice in lesser quantities, making them more useful for keeping individual drinks cool rather than generating enough ice to cool down many drinks or food items. Conversely, larger units, though heavy and meant to stay in one place, make much more ice and can prove useful for large events, hotels, and bigger foodservice or restaurant settings.
One should also pay attention to the kinds of ice that a given ice maker can produce. Nugget ice and cubed ice are both solid pieces of ice, but the key difference is that the former is softer and chewier than the latter, making it better than cubed ice for smoothies and similar iced drinks. Crushed ice is very thin and melts easily but is an excellent choice for slushies and frozen desserts. Knowing which type or types of ice can be made by an ice maker will be invaluable in deciding which one to buy.
