Drop-in Freezers

Drop-in freezers are specialized refrigeration units that are built into a table or countertop. They resemble cabinets and usually feature two or more compartments for users to store food in. In a nutshell, they function like reverse food wells, keeping food frozen instead of warmed. In this article, we'll be taking a look at how they work and how they are installed.

As mentioned, drop-in freezers are installed into a table or counter that has an opening where the unit can be placed. As the units are electrically powered, it would be best to place the unit near a power outlet or other electric source. The body of the unit is where the user will find the compartments where food is stored. Many drop-in freezers come equipped with lids for these compartments to cover up the food inside, if necessary.

Freezer compartments typically have steel interiors. The freezers are also insulated with polyurethane to retain the cold. Below the freezer compartments is a condensing unit which dispels heat from the freezer. Overall, the compartments typically hold between 6 to 10 gallons worth of food.

Drop-in freezers are best used with foods like ice cream, which must be carefully preserved at freezing temperatures to avoid spoiling or ruining the consistency and texture. They are perfect for buffets, dessert restaurants, and other similar outlets where frozen foods can be displayed for customers.
