Bread slicers are a time-saving alternative to manually slicing bread, and they are relatively simple to use. Aside from being efficient, they are also a viable solution to labor challenges that the restaurant industry currently faces.
The easy counter to buying a bread slicer is, "Why not just teach your staff to slice the bread manually?" The answer is that hiring and retaining staff is costly and difficult in the present day. According to the American Baking Association and the American Society of Baking, two-thirds of baking employers expect that workforce shortages will continue to affect baking operations over the next five years. With that in mind, many have been looking to automation to make up for the shortages, and so bread slicers have become more valuable to baking-related operations.
On top of that, bread slicers help ensure consistency of quality. They can slice bread evenly and uniformly, practically eliminating the chance of error. There are also different types of slicers available. Some are specialized for cutting French bread, others more suited for bagels, and others still intended for slicing buns.
Like any piece of equipment, bread slicers must be properly maintained in order to function correctly. In particular, users should change out the blades regularly to ensure that there are no operational issues. Conveyor components should also be maintained to avoid malfunctions. Failing to keep up with the different components of the slicer can lead to wear and tear in addition to decreasing slice quality.
