In today's food culture, sauces are more relevant than one might expect.
According to KFC GMO Nick Chavez, sauces and condiments are an integral part of many customers' meals—a phenomenon most commonly observed with Gen Z customers. Technomic's recent Flavor Consumer Trend Report found something similar; in said report, it was found that 34% of customers choose what restaurant they want to eat at based on the sauces and condiments are available.
Given these observations, it stands to reason that restaurants can benefit greatly from offering and experimenting with sauces—and for the biggest brands, that's just what they're doing. Brands across the board from McDonald's to Subway offer a wide range of sauces for customers to truly personalize their meals with. Some of these sauces are even sold in supermarkets, like the famous Chick Fil-A sauce. In this fashion, not only are sauces and condiments exciting opportunities for diversifying menus, but they are also opportunities for brand expansion and outreach.
Restaurants can take advantage of these new trends by investing in ramekins, or sauce cups. In addition to holding dipping sauces, these containers also can be bought in different styles. For example, metal ramekins are typically associated with steakhouses and seafood restaurants. Choosing the right kind of ramekin can help bolster the atmosphere and aesthetic of a restaurant.
Sauces are much more than optional add-ons for a meal. They are an expression of a customer's personal tastes, and an extra way for them to have more control over their meal. They are also a means of shaping and sharing a restaurant's identity.
