In today's restaurant industry, games are more important than one might think.
The term "gamification" may conjure the image of video games. Indeed, such amusements are prevalent in many restaurants today. But it also refers to the ways in which restaurants conduct staff-related and customer-related activities. For instance, the 1Huddle training program uses AI technology to create interactive training materials for new employees. On the customer side of things, the Web3-based software Devour provides customers with games that are linked to rewards. By playing the games, customers earn points that can be put toward merchandise and prizes such as vacations or drones. As Devour CEO Shelly Rupel tells Nation's Restaurant News, gamification can lead to dramatic changes for restaurant customer relationships.
"Think of it as similar to DoorDash or Uber Eats from a marketplace standpoint, but with gamified loyalty and digital communities," Rupel said.
Gamification, in short, makes loyalty a fun and engaging experience. It encourages employees and customers alike to interact with restaurants in a more personalized way, viewing them as more than just businesses that they can buy products and services from. By extension, gamification gives back to loyal customers and employees by rewarding them and tailoring to their interests.
The integration of gamified systems into restaurants is another example of how burgeoning technologies are changing the way people interact with restaurants.
