Today nearly every food establishment needs an ice machine and when it comes to choosing the right one for your needs, there are a lot of factors to consider. Because so many styles and configuration exist, understanding what is out there can be be a good way to find the perfect ice machine for you and your business.
Types of ice makers
While there are variations within each type, commercial ice machines generally fall into four basic styles: modular ice machines, undercounter ice machines, ice dispensers, and combination ice and water machines. When it comes to choosing your ice machine, you should consider the type of ice it'll produce.
Modular ice machine: Produce large amounts of ice and are paired with separate units to dispense the ice. They are commonly available in 22, 30 and 48 widths. They sit on top of a ice machine bin, an ice dispenser or a soda machine. Those modular ice machine ice outputs can range from 250 lb per day to well over 1000 lb per day. They are also capable of making all ice types.
Undercounter ice machines: An essential piece of equipment for any bar, undercounter ice makers fit underneath countertops and are out of the way. They combine the ice machine with a storage bin and it fits under most 40 high counters and are capable of producing all ice types. Undercounter ice machines outputs generally tops out around 350 lb per day. But a few higher capacity models exist as well.
Ice dispenser: Typically paired with a modular ice machine, a commercial ice dispenser is similar to the ice bin in that it holds the ice until use, but it fully eliminates human contact with the ice by using a sensor or lever dispenser system. Most common area to find an ice dispenser is in hotels and healthcare settings because they can keep the ice safe from contaminants. they also produce full cubes, half cubes, and nugget style cubes. These units come in both countertop and floor models and generally only available with an air cooled ice machine. The ice outputs range from 120 lb per day to 618 lb per day
Combination ice and Water Dispenser: A great add on for any offices, cafeterias, break rooms and healthcare facilities. Able to dispense both water and ice, commercial ice and water dispensers are designed to save space, easy to use and easy to clean. They also come in both countertop and floor models and they usually dispense nugget-style ice they also produce full cubes, crescent, and cubelets style ice. Combination ice and water dispenser despite many having a small ice storage bin, they are still capable of producing up to 500 lb of ice per day.
